StoryCorps is an independent nonprofit hoping to preserve one of the largest oral history projects of its kind. Their mission is to provide people of all backgrounds with the opportunity to record, share, and preserve the stories of their lives. Each conversation is recorded on a FREE CD to share and is preserved at the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress. Millions of listeners tune in to NPR’s Morning Edition broadcasts featuring the recorded interviews as well.
Durham will be hosting StoryCorps’ MobileBooth (an Airstream trailer outfitted with recording studio) April 17 – May 18 at the American Tobacco Campus. WUNC will air some of the interviews locally in addition to NPR’s national coverage. Interviews must be between two people who know and care about each other, and a trained facilitator will be there to guide you through the process.
To reserve a spot, call StoryCorps’ 24-hour toll-free reservation line at 1-800-850-4406 or click here. They will begin taking reservations at 10 a.m. on April 3, 2014.
